My Project
Research has shown that the use of sensory seating leads to significant statistical improvements in attention and persistence. I would like to have enough wiggle cushions and stools available for students so that there is no wait time for them throughout the day. Particularly in the winter, when recess is limited to indoors on many days, students find themselves needing to move.
We work during the school year to increase our awareness of what we might need to do to help us succeed, and seats that allow for movement are a key component of doing that well.
My students have gotten very good at asking to use one of the four sensory cushions that I currently have, and they have proven helpful in increasing focus. The goal is to give my students autonomy of self and help them understand the role that they themselves can take to contribute to their own success.
