My students need a way to release their energy without disrupting others. The wiggle cushions will be an outlet, but also improve posture and increase their focus.
This project expired on June 21, 2018.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
My students have a variety of different learning styles, so I do my best to fit their individual needs. I am a first year teacher that is starting in the middle of the year. Some of my students have ADD or ADHD and require movement or different seating arrangements to do their best learning. They love using clipboards around the room.
Most of my students need to sit around the room in their chosen location to complete assignments or independently read, I just do not have access to resources to allow them to do so comfortably.
Due to their learning styles and my growing interest in flexible seating, I believe that my students will benefit by having a variety of different seating options so they can do their best learning!
If I cannot sit in a chair for seven hours, I am not going to force my students to do so!
I allow my students to sit around the room throughout tests and the day; by having wiggle cushions, this will allow students to do so with comfort.
My overall goal is to have enough wiggle cushions so that everyone has access to one (or at least the majority). One of my amazing parents has donated two wiggle cushions and I can already see the improvement in focus with my friends with ADHD. My only issue is that I only have two and students tend to fight over them because there just is not enough. This project will not give a wiggle cushion to every student, but it will get me to a spot where I can *hopefully* be able to financially support the rest?
I am a first-year teacher and I have always wanted to become a teacher. I know this is what I am meant to do for the rest of my life. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for my students and I know flexible seating will definitely be a part of it.
