This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This year brings me 38 new and wonderful 4th and 5th-grade students working on an advanced math curriculum!
As a teacher, I never sit down, so how can I expect my students to sit through a 2- 1/2 hour block of learning without needing to get up?
Wobble stools and cushions provide these students with flexible options for completing their work around the classroom. The students in 4th grade are working on a 5th grade curriculum and the students in 5th grade are working on a brand new combo 6th/7th grade math curriculum. In addition, these students are conducting hands-on labs and various projects that require lots of movement around the classroom.
In our classroom, we use flexible seating to help students around the classroom with teamwork and collaborative efforts in group projects. Regular chairs are "bulky" and often get in the way of students working together on projects. The students in my classes love to work on the floor or carpet, so the wobble cushions provide extra support and comfort for the students to work. The current stools are several years old and breaking. There are also not enough stools for every child who wants to use a stool to have one, resulting in the students alternating on the seating choices.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
