Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Welcome to my classroom! We are composed of 25 energetic 5th graders in Allentown. Our school is 95% in poverty, with all students in my class qualifying for free and reduced lunches and breakfasts. Currently only 20% of my students are reading on grade level or higher. 5 students have individual education plans and 3 students speak with English as their second language. With this percentage in the first marking period, it has shown the need to vary the ways in which I assess students' understanding and methods of instruction. Through the Think Central portal on our Google Drive, students will have access to ELA, Math and Science support in their native language as well as extra support for themselves and their families at home. Students will have access to applications catered to meet their individual needs. And families will have a common place to utilize effective communication.
My Project
The Google Drive is a central hub for applications used in our classroom. Through the Clever application, I have students logging on to several websites to increase student engagement throughout the day with the limited technology we currently have in the classroom.
These Chromebooks would increase our student to computer usage to one-to-one.
Through interactive data tracking, I have been trying to increase parent communication and involvement. Both the Seesaw and Google Classroom applications would allow parents to view current topics and assignments occurring in class and increase the level of discussions at home and depth of understanding.
Chromebooks would help the students collaborate and increase parent involvement through the use of the Google Classroom and Seesaw applications. Both applications allow students to give immediate feedback, communicate, research, and complete assignments and projects all while giving parents access to the students work. These applications allow students to listen to and interact with our core curriculum, increasing language and reading skills for students performing below grade level.
