Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are special! They are loving children in the truest sense. They show kindness to one another multiple times a day on a daily basis. Sometimes, like most children (or people for that matter) need a gentle reminder or a little nudge to help them make powerful choices in their learning experiences. They are enthusiastic learners who get easily excited about school, especially when learning tools are involved. I brag about my students in the way that a proud parent brags about their children. Many of the students at my school live outside of the school boundaries so they are here on a permit. They are predominantly of Latino background.

Our class is very unique and special because they have such an eagerness for learning.

They become overly excited when new books are added to our existing collection of classroom library, or when scented crayons and markers, or new pencils are included in their tool kits. Since my students love learning and enjoy using new tools I am constantly looking to add new ideas and materials into our classroom. By nurturing their excitement I know I can help grow our future leaders

My Project

When the pandemic first started, I began teaching using my Macbook Pro laptop until it died a few months into teaching. Then I tried using a school issued Chromebook which came with several challenges, as it was not equipped to handle the necessary platforms required for teaching. I used my own money to purchase computer pieces to beef up my husband's old production computer. Now I have a lot of storage memory and power to run several programs at once with minimal lag while teaching remotely. Unfortunately, now my 18 year old monitor is dying. Each day it reminds with large streaks across the monitor or pixilation.

I need a wide format monitor to view all of my students as well my content material in a single grid.

I am specifically looking at the LG9 monitor because after extensive research I have found it has everything I am looking for. My research also tells me that many production professionals use gaming monitors. Currently, I run another device in order to supervise my students while using a separate device to run my Zoom call and share content. This monitor's tighter pixels, sharper resolution and a quick response time will allow me to see my students and their work better. The curved screen will reduce eye strain. Throughout the day I instruct the students to angle their cameras to show their desk area. This is helpful during writing and math as it helps me understand their thought process. Currently my monitor is failing, too small, and has limited resolution to view details.

When we return to the classroom, my students can use this monitor to view content I am teaching from my electronic devices. In addition students can use this monitor to display their coding projects. Please help me fund this.
