This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
As a primary public Montessori educator, I am fortunate to work with a multi-age group of 3-6 year old students. Many of my students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and may not have adequate access to quality academic materials and supplies. Nevertheless, all of the students are curious and eager to learn about the beautiful and fascinating world they live in.
My students are amazing!
They wonder about anything and everything. They cheerfully explore and try to discover the logical purpose of the how's and why's in this world. They deserve a quality education and a great foundation.
I see an incredible sense of joy in their smiles when they are completely engaged and excited about each and every learning experience. Elation!
Waiting is not easy...but, working with a small group gives everybody a chance to participate and learn from each other right away. Having a kidney-shaped table will give my students the opportunity to work together and build their confidence through collaboration.
Small group instruction at a kidney-shaped table can help me provide a comfortable place for my students to sit and work together; as well as boost the confidence of a student who might not otherwise participate in a lesson.
With this table, I can gather students with similar needs and goals, provide feedback, and guided practice on the spot! I can't help thinking about the learning opportunities my students will gain from working so closely with their peers.
