My students need quality nonfiction reading material at their level just like what Scholastic has to offer.

My Students
This upcoming year I will be teaching first grade for the first time ever and I will be at a brand new school!
I want my students to grow into lifelong readers and learners!
I want them to be excited about reading and for then to always have books at their fingertips that will interest them.
My students will be coming from all different backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses. Some live in the neighborhood but others are bussed in from all over the county. Their educational backgrounds are all different and I plan on being prepared for this.
My Project
Reading is a life long skill that starts in elementary school and never stops. This year I am entering a new grade level at a new school and I want to make sure I have books at my students' correct reading level.
Come on, all good teachers know how crowded the library gets!
Even though the library is always the best resource for quality reading material I don't want to depend on it all the time.
The best resource for myself and my students would be to have a classroom library. This classroom library needs to be filled with books at a first-grade reading level and books that students actually want to read.
For my first project, I am requesting a couple nonfiction book sets. I thought this would be a great resource for a few reasons. First, I could take the books and put them on my bookshelf for students to read when appropriate. What I really love is that there are multiple copies of each book so I could use these and pull a small group. We could use these books for a book study, or unit of study since each book in the set is connected by the same overall topic.
I believe this resource would be a great place to start as I am building my new classroom library.
