Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember when you first applied sunscreen? Did you ever look up and wonder where the hole in the ozone was or why it mattered?
My students attend a small (approximately six hundred students), high achieving charter school in Southern California.
They are high school students enrolled in an Advanced Placement Environmental Science Course. My students are from an urban area and most of them are from families with low socioeconomic status. They are Title I students who are very motivated to succeed.
My Project
My students need ozone testing paper to test for ozone levels in the world around them. They will apply this knowledge as they research the Montreal Protocol and have debates about its effectiveness. They will then use the interactive whiteboard materials to study climate change and determine if and how it is related to ozone depletion.
Having these materials will better prepare my students for their AP exam as they enhance their scientific investigation skills.
It will also make them more environmentally conscious individuals who will share their knowledge with those they come into contact with.
