My Students

Houston ISD is a large urban school district with a very diverse student population. Our high school draws students from all over the district. We specifically focus on getting students to improve their STEM skills by having a strong focus on Engineering, Science, and Math.

My classes consist of 12th grade physics students who are using project-based learning to experience physics with hands-on activities.

This develops the students' inventive skills, challenging them to develop experiments and projects using their own unique experiences and knowledge.

EIHS is currently in it's 6th year. I am in my second year here. We are only in the 3rd year of teaching physics at EIHS and in need of additional lab equipment to help my students experience the laws of physics using current technology.

My Project

In Physics, students need to understand how an why objects move. There is a great deal of applied math which comes in to play. It is often difficult for the students to grasp the tie between math and the motion of objects.

The dynamics track and the encoder system give students a direct visual link to the tie between motion of a cart and the mathematical principles used to describe the motion.

By collecting data as the cart moves on this track, students can quickly graph and analyze the data to see the links between time, distance, velocity, and acceleration.

The force plate will help students understand concepts such as Newton's Third Law. It allows the students to collect data directly to their computer to analyze the changes in force in situation such as the motion of an elevtor.
