This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am an inclusion early education special education teacher in an eTK general education class of 24 students. 8 of my students are students with identified disabilities who are taught alongside their typical peers (children without disabilities). I want to provide my students with a wonderful learning environment full of hands-on experiences that encourage them to use their creative minds while learning core concepts that will prepare them for the rigor of Common Core Curriculum.
My school is located in a high poverty neighborhood and students participate in the Free and Reduced Lunch Program.
A lack of funding requires that teachers depend on the generosity of others who support public education and spend their own money to provide many of the resources for their students.
My Project
The RockABoat was my favorite piece of outdoor equipment when I was in kindergarten years ago. I know my students would love to use it as both a teeter-totter and a bridge when we act out our traditional tales and nursery rhymes. My favorite thing about this particular piece of equipment is that the children can sit next to each other and across from each other which helps to promote social-emotional development and language development while they are engaging in a gross motor activity.
Whether my students are using the rocking boat to pretend to be pirates, trip-trapping across the bridge as Billy Goats Gruff, or just using it as a teeter-totter, I know there will be a line of kids waiting in line for their turn.
Your generosity will make all this fun possible! It's fun to be a kid and your donations will make our program even better!!! Thank you so much!
