Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am an early childhood special education inclusion teacher in a Pre-Kindergarten classroom at an elementary school. My students with disabilities are fully included into the general education classroom and curriculum. The general education co-teacher and I lesson plan and deliver instruction in a collaborative model. Our students range in ages from 3-5 years old. I have two sessions each day. This year we had 30 typical children and 14 children with special needs in our program.

Each year public school teachers are hit with budget cuts and forced to think of resourceful ways to provide all the same learning opportunities with little to no funds for equipment or materials. Over the years I have bought many materials for my classroom and with usual wear, and tear it's time to replace some of my students' favorite pieces of equipment. I would so appreciate support from DonorsChoose to help me provide my students with hours of fun and learning for years to come!

The Step-Rocking Boat was my favorite piece of outdoor equipment when I was in kindergarten years ago. I know my students would love to use it as both a teeter-totter and a bridge when we act out our traditional tales and nursery rhymes. My favorite thing about this particular piece of equipment is that the children can sit next to each other and across from each other which helps to promote social-emotional development and language development while they are engaging in a gross motor activity. It will also be fantastic to have a parachute with enough handles for each child to have their own to hold on to during parachute play.

Whether my students are using the rocking boat to pretend to be pirates during our Real and Make Believe unit, trip-trapping across the bridge as Billy Goats Gruff, or just using it as a teeter-totter, I know there will be a line of kids waiting in line for their turn. The gift of the parachute gives us a fun indoor option for a whole group lesson on rainy days or lots of fun outside too. Who doesn't love to run under a parachute? Your generosity will make all this fun possible! It's fun to be a kid and your donations will make our program even better!!! Thank you so much!
