The students in my Title I elementary school are no strangers to falling down, getting back up and trying again.

Our school houses the largest registered population of English as a New Language Learners in any elementary school in our city. The students come to school each day and learn to master reading, writing, mathematics, a myriad of outside classroom specials in the arts and physical education, and the art of speaking English. They look forward to the special after school clubs that offer them additional ways to express themselves through the arts, technology, and athletics. We look forward to Empowering Students Through Art.

My Project

For a select handful of students, Wednesday afternoons is a wonderful opportunity to find personal artistic expression through the art of dance. Each year, the Dance Club has grown to include more students, as we try to give as many of our young ladies and gentlemen the opportunity to find a meaningful way to express themselves without using words at all. With the onset of a new year, I have gladly invited a half dozen new students to join our growing Dance Club. These little feet, along with the ones that have grown over the summer, require ballet shoes in order to fully participate in the Dance Club classes and performances. With new, properly fitted ballet shoes, these young dancers will be able to fully extend their feet, exercising their foot muscles and their right to personal expression.

By funding this project, you will be Empowering Students Through Art and showing my young dancers that you believe in them so they can believe that they have the ability to follow their dreams. New ballet shoes will put them on the right path to finding the road to self-expression.
