Our third graders love learning and the process that comes with it. Collaboration is a big piece of elementary school as is learning to value each other's ideas and opinions.
Students are encouraged to work productively in groups and also independently, depending on the tasks at hand.
Our school year last year was very unique. The school district had redrawn the boundaries and many students moved schools, so we were in a special year where students and families were merging together. We also endured Hurricane Florence with six weeks out of school and families in our district suffering through loss. This year, we were concerned with Hurricane Dorian, but we were very fortunate and didn't suffer damage in our area. And now, we're learning remotely because of Covid-19. We're anxious to get back to our classroom and have some routine.
We have had a couple different carpet pieces donated over the years. They are getting a bit old and grungy, especially since they also 'survived' hurricane Florence. It's time for something fresh, new, and more inviting to welcome us back.
The carpet at the front of the room is where we begin and end every school day, together.
We have our morning meetings here, sharing about events going on in our lives as well as any concerns or celebrations! This is where we go over our morning challenge questions for math and ELA, along with our whole-group mini lessons. During small group and independent time, students typically enjoy being in this space and if we had a new carpet, it would be even more welcoming!
