Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are the Patriots! Our elementary school has been around for many years. The population of the school is about 835 students and a good percentage of that population is considered low income. The school library is the only place made available to the students where they can borrow a book to read. Most of these students have never been to a library outside of school and this is the only place where books are available to them. All students come to the library each day ready to choose an interesting book in standard condition. Each child that comes to the library is eager to find newer novels and picture books that are not ruined, old, or falling apart. As the new librarian, I would like to very much replace older outdated books with new and interesting materials. This school is truly a family friendly community. I am very grateful to be in such a wonderful and loving environment.
My Project
With these new non-fiction books, my school will be able to choose from a variety of English and Spanish books that will allow students to learn more. These books will continue to enhance reading in the school library. Students will learn about historical events and people in a fun and age appropriate manner. These Who Was books have been chosen with the students in mind. I have seen how this collection is very demanding among the students who want to learn more. The best way to get students reading more is by having interesting books available.
