Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a beautifully diverse group of fourth graders. These young learners aspire to become scientists, teachers, doctors, and even professional athletes. They work extremely hard in the classroom to be able to follow their dreams, and they do this while being confronted with social, personal, and educational challenges.
Regardless of their obstacles, my students learn to excel by collaborating with others, becoming organized thinkers and learners, and utilizing their previous knowledge or languages.
My students want to learn, and they put forth the greatest effort to become the most knowledgable and most respectful and responsible human beings they can be. They strive to make a difference, and are able to use this drive to overcome the obstacles they are faced with.
My Project
Together with the other English Only class, we have decided our students need the opportunity to learn about people from varying races, backgrounds, and upbringings and how these people grew to achieve their dreams. We have two classes full of very diverse children with very big dreams.
We want them to know that their dreams are possible even with the obstacles and challenges they have faced and will continue to face in their futures.
These books will be the basis of a new project in our classes that will focus on developing better comprehension skills of non-fiction texts, as well as presentation skills that will be a value in their future educational careers, from high school and beyond.
