Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I provide speech and language therapy for three to five year old children in an early childhood education center. My students often have risk factors and most are in a special education setting. I work with students that have developmental delays, selective mutism, Autism and speech and language delays.

My students work on functional communication, vocabulary, social skills, basic concepts, listening and following directions and speech sound production to improve communication skills in the classroom and home environments.

The goal is to better prepare my students for Kindergarten.

My Project

These materials will allow me to create vibrant, colorful picture materials that will help increase vocabulary development of these young students. The sensory materials chosen are critical to allow these students to stay focused on the task as hand. Children learn through manipulation of objects which is why I am trying to beef up my collection! These objects will help students clearly identify the targets. Then we can match, expand our understanding of them, categorize the items and so much more! Using laminate will help preserve the picture I will print out so I can use them for years to come.
