This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

When that learning takes place in a laboratory, where they get to explore and test their theories, that is a perfect day. Our school is in the process of being "refurbished" and rebuilt in stages over three years. We have very with limited space and/or resources.

I have over 200 students, many of which are English Language Learners that love to learn!

Hands-on activities are so crucial to developing their language and writing skills. My students are eager to learn, but our resources are limited.

My Project

We will be "doing work" through the use of alternative energy sources. The earth is running out of non-renewable resources, (fossil fuels) what other ways can we find to "do work" in our classroom. We will explore wind, hydro, and solar energy. The students will attempt to harness the power of each to start thinking about how we will obtain energy in the future when the climate changes due to global warming.

My students will build three different types of alternative energy devices in attempts to harness wind, water, and solar power.

Our driving question this year is "Who rules the Earth, human beings or the climate?" This project will allow my students the opportunity to investigate for themselves what alternative energy sources are AND then compare them to conclude the best fit for individual situations. For example: If solar power is determined most efficient, what do you do on cloudy days?

This is a global issue that is so important for our young people to understand!
