Who Lived Here First?

My project needs 28 books on the various Native American tribes.

I am a 4th grade teacher in a New York City Public School. I have a large class this year and each one of my students has a strong desire to learn. I have been able to feed off my students' desire to learn and have created an in-depth study of the Native Americans that once lived in New York. My students have been discovering about the people who lived in New York first. During this study of the various Algonquian tribes and the Iroquois Confederacy that lived in present day New York, my students have become very interested in the life of the Native Americans and life long ago. In order to have enough resources to make this study work I have had to visit multiple libraries in the area and visited Barnes and Nobles myself. My students want to bring home these wonderful resources to share with their families. Unfortunately my students are not able to bring these library books home. My problem is that I do not have enough resources for each student to bring one home with them and because of the age and condition of the library books I am afraid of the books becoming damaged. To solve this problem I would love to create a wonderful center in my classroom library with books of our very own. I want to create a Native American wing in our own classroom. Full of books that the students could take home with them and bring their love of learning home to share with their parents. I would love this center to include nonfiction books, historical fiction stories and Native American tales and legends. I really hope that you have a strong desire to learn just like my students and can help us create a wonderful learning center in our classroom.
