Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"I am a kid at hope. I am talented, smart, and capable of success. I have dreams for the future, and I will climb to reach those goals and dreams everyday." This is the pledge my students recite every morning at my school, with the ultimate goal of internalizing the words and believing them with no exceptions!
It is a pleasure watching my students from various backgrounds and cultural experiences stretch their identities to become the best citizens they can be.
As Nelson Mandela so aptly stated, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."
"I am a Treasure Hunter; as an adult and a Treasure Hunter, I am committed to search for all the talents, skills, and intelligence that exist in all children and youth." The staff at my school also recite a pledge every morning. Students on my campus have been gifted to us from a variety of backgrounds, socioeconomic statuses, and cultural experiences. Academic performance is a priority at my school; however, as an educator, I also get the privilege of establishing and maintaining positive, interactive, and hope-filled relationships with every student who walks through the gate.
My Project
The "Who Is"/"Who Was" books would make a difference in my students' learning by giving them a resource that is engaging and on their reading level to use to complete a research essay - while having fun! The books are about people of interest to my students and they handpicked the list of books for this project personally. As middle schoolers, they enjoy writing and research much more when the topic is something they chose themselves.
The "Who Is"/"Who Was" books would mean that my students could be inspired from reading about the lives of others and use what they learned in their writing!
