Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in an urban third grade classroom with with some years up to 30 students trying to get my attention to show me their answers many times during each school day.
AsI work my way around our very crowded classroom, I think there has to be a faster way to do this. To get to 30 students and check their work - it does take a big bite out of an already time crunched day.
All my students are extremely excited and enthusiastic to show me what they have done, whether it is a math, science or social studies question or problem. I am eager and anxious to see everyone's work too, but it takes a lot of time each day. Sometimes it seems like a lot of valuable time is wasted while we could be doing something else fun and exciting.
I have come up with a solution to stop wasting so much of my student's valuable time. I have always noticed that my students love to use dry erase boards and markers during our learning center time. So if I incorporated the same idea, using kwik chek paddles, I could easily cut down on the amount of time I waste walking around the room to check student's work.
Each student would get the following set of materials each morning: a kwik chek paddle and a dry erase marker. When working on an activity, a classwork assignment, or fact review in any subject, each student could hold up their paddle and from anywhere in the room and I can give a quick thumbs up and they could move on to another question or activity. Or better yet, I can quickly identify students in need of a little extra help and guidance to get them on the right track.
We could also have multiplication races, spelling bees and other more fun and exciting activities that would make learning fun and take only a few minutes each day.
Kwik Chek paddles are perfect to use in the classroom because they are instant and can easily be cleaned off using a paper towel. These paddles can be placed inside each students desk and are easily accessible when needed. The handles have a special area to place the dry erase markers for storage. When used in conjunction, the Kwik Chek paddle and dry erase marker make a fabulous teaching and learning tool that students will enjoy using each and every day throughout the school year.
With your generous help and support, I can make learning a lot more fun in our classroom. My students would really love using the materials, get extra help when they need it, and look forward to our classroom "competitions.
