My students need 25 copies of Shakespeare's Made Easy version of "Taming of the Shrew" in order to better understand the language and vernacular of Shakespeare.
I have lower-level sophomore English students who absolutely hate to read. My goal is to get them to read "Taming of the Shrew" by William Shakespeare by utilizing the Shakespeare Made Easy version, which gives them a side-by-side interpretation of the novel.
I have 75 sophomore English students.
Our school has about 1400 students grades 9-12 and we are located on the West coast of Florida. Many of my students are Hispanic and many of them are struggling readers who give up very easily. For many of them, they will be the first in their families to graduate from high school and my goal is to not only help make that happen, but to help get them to college as well.
My Project
I am requesting 25 copies pf Shakespeare's "Taming of the Shrew." If I could get a class set of this novel for my students, it would help expand their horizons as far as what they have read and what they know. It will also help them understand the difficult language of Shakespeare so that the next time they encounter a piece of his literature, they will understand it a little better and hopefully without the training wheels of having the side-by-side interpretation.
I have always wanted to teach "Taming of the Shrew" because it has such a relatable storyline for my students (adolescent dating); however, I've always been worried about the difficulty level for my students.
Having discovered the Shakespeare Made Easy books that provide side-by-side interpretations, I would love to get the opportunity to teach it this year! With funding being cut so drastically, the only way I will be able to teach this is if it's funded through DonorsChoose. Help!
