My students are from a low economic background. Many have not been exposed to literature, therefore they begin their school experience at a deficit. As the new librarian I have witnessed their desire to read and their love for books.
Our library had a limited supply of appropriate books written on a lower grade level.
Although my administration has been able to provide a small amount of funding, it was not sufficient to cover the amount that was needed.
Please help put a book in the hands of our students and open the doors to learning.
My Project
Our students need to read about famous people who have made a difference in the world or in their community.
Students need to read about people who have overcome circumstances and hardships to become the person they are.
Reading about their passion and determination helps our students of today understand that these people are just like them in the fact that they struggled to get where they are, or have had to fight to get what they wanted.
Hopefully this will allow our students to understand that they themselves can do many things if they have the determination and perseverance that they need to get what they want.
