This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our classroom is filled with first and second-grade students who have a passion for learning and have beautiful, kind hearts. These students show enthusiasm and curiosity with every new subject matter learned. They ask questions and show interest in why or how something is the way it is. My students are also the type of people we want to see in the world. They are willing to help one another achieve their personal success and show love and compassion to one another. I believe that one day my students will change the world.
My Project
My students love being able to show me their work. Whiteboards, dry erase markers, and erasers would be a great addition to our classroom environment!
I am requesting that each student be able to have access to their own personal whiteboard, eraser, and dry erase marker in order to be able to show their learnings in a quick and resourceful manner.
For example, students would be able to swiftly show their thinking on different types of math problems. Using whiteboards would allow for students to display all of their work and make changes to their thinking, if needed. Students can also use whiteboards to show phonemic awareness by drawing Elkonin boxes on their whiteboards and showing how they can segment and blend.
Personal whiteboards would be beneficial to myself as the teacher because it would allow for me to make quick, informal assessments on my students' learnings. I would be able to understand right then and there who is understanding and who may need extra support.
Also, student engagement increases when they are using whiteboards and dry erase markers. Students find it much more engaging to practice on whiteboards than on a simple piece of paper. Students know that by using the whiteboards more often, it helps our environment because we are using less paper and saving trees!
Having the ability to use whiteboards, dry erase markers, and erasers would be extremely beneficial to our classroom learning environment.
