My Project
Students learn best by working and collaborating together. Collaborating in the classroom supports and encourages the use of valuable social skills within an academic setting. Collaborative dry-erase boards are non-permanent writing surfaces that allow students to work together to solve math problems. I have seen my students step up and help each other out when working in close, collaborative settings, explaining problems and the steps to use to solve them. They all have their own strengths, and I want to facilitate these strengths and encourage them to develop them and share them with others! These dry-erase boards are one step towards facilitating greater collaboration and movement of ideas between students.
Research shows that students are more likely to take risks, make mistakes, and persevere through difficult problems when they know they can simply erase mistakes and move on with a different strategy to try to solve a problem.
These dry-erase markers and whiteboards will give my students the opportunity to work together to create, solve, and brainstorm. The whiteboards will help me meet the needs of all my learners.
Ultimately, these whiteboards will encourage collaborative learning in my classroom, will allow students to illustrate their thinking, and will foster higher levels of thinking and understanding, allowing students to share their ideas in a new and fun way! I believe that this classroom resource would assist my students in achieving grade-level standards and feeling successful and engaged while they do it.
