Whiteboard Wows!

Help me give my students a mobile whiteboard to replace an old chalkboard where they can demonstrate their learning by being the "teacher" and having success.

My Students

My students range in grades from 3rd-5th grade and all have learning challenges. They come to my classroom once or twice a day to get the individual or small group instruction they need to help them reach their learning goals and succeed in their general education classrooms. My students enjoy learning by using different tools in their toolbags to help them be successful. They are also learning to advocate for themselves by really understanding what helps them learn and asking for those tools/accommodations when they are in their general education classrooms.

In my classroom we celebrate even the smallest accomplishments.

Whether one of my fifth grade students aced her addition and subtraction test or one of my third graders learned how to spellcheck his paragraph on his computer independently, it is all cause for cheers. My students work extra hard every day on concepts that are hard for them and they are often asked to do work in their classrooms that is above them. Sure, they complain at times and don't want to do the work, but when they have those small successes, the smiles on their faces are priceless. And that is why I am still doing this job.

My Project

My students love to demonstrate their work up on the board and act like the "teacher" in front of their peers. They do this mostly during math activities. Right now, they write on an old free standing chalkboard that is held together with duct tape. The chalk dust often makes them sneeze and it is always coming off on their hands. Having a whiteboard with pens will allow them to show their thinking with different colors as they solve their long division problem or show regrouping when doing subtraction. They are also fans of playing Hangman if there are a few minutes left before they return to their general education classrooms.
