Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students learn best when they can visualize mathematics. In today's educational settings all materials are moving to digital resources. While this is great in many aspects, it limits what students are able to actually write and draw with. Paper and pencil are always options, but a lot of the time the things that they need to draw and scribe are things to start generating the thinking and are not something that they will need to keep and store in folders or binders.

We are losing money every year from our budget and just do not have the resources to make sure that each child has a whiteboard to work and draw on.

We will use these whiteboards daily to take concrete materials to pictorial representations and eventually abstract concepts.

Being a school with a large amount of Emerging Bilingual students, some of the only ways that students are able show concepts that they know in math is by drawing a representation to demonstrate understanding of the skill. For these students having a personal whiteboard could mean the difference in being unfairly assessed as not comprehending the material as opposed to the language.

Please help us level the playing field and make sure that all of our students have what they need to be successful in math.
