This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are ready to write, we just need the materials to be able to do it. I was left about ten white boards from a previous teacher, but they are all stained that my students cannot tell whether they are writing or not. I also do not have enough for my entire class. My students need white boards, markers, and erasers.

My students are all kindergarteners beginning to read and write.

They are all interested in different things but we try to make the class into a community. Everyday, when they come into my classroom, they are so excited to see what our plan for the day will be.

My Project

During whole group reading, I will write the letter or word on the board and have the students copy it onto their white boards to get as much practice as possible. On other occasions, I will ask a question, or sound out letters, and have the students write the word. During whole group math, I will use it in the same ways. When we get to patterns and addition/subtraction, this will be extremely helpful.

I work in a low SES neighborhood.

My students are so thirsty for learning, and I want to give them every opportunity to do so. They have never used white boards before this year, and they had never been exposed to a chalkboard until the beginning of this year.
