This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As second language learners my students need consistent oral practice. They work hard on reading, writing, and speaking activities on a daily basis. Currently they are working on increasing their use of academic language within each of their academic classes. They have a difficult time expressing their ideas through academic language stems as they focus greatly on what they want to say. The white board easels are an essential part to their success as they will be able post their ideas and pull from the board when using the academic discussion stems.
My Project
The white board easels will help each of my students develop a voice within the classroom by sharing their ideas with group members and the entire class. Their confidence as speakers will increase as they will have the opportunity to write down their ideas first and display them without feeling the pressure of having to memorize the ideas they will be sharing.
Students will use the easel boards to discuss their points of confusion with their group members.
Through this process they will increase their understanding of content area lessons. In the end they will be successful overall and be prepared to take on any subject.
