My Project
I would like to give my students the continuative connection between White Bird and Wonder in the classroom, focusing on the theme of kindness and its impact, exploring how small acts of kindness can change lives, and how both stories explore the power of empathy and understanding, even in the face of adversity.
White Bird is a Wonder story that expands on the narrative of Julian's grandmother, Sara Blum, who is mentioned in Wonder.
Every child has a back story and White Bird provides a deeper understanding of Julian's family background and the events that shaped his character. He is not kind in the book Wonder and here students can see how he was raised and the hardships his family have endured.
Both stories emphasize the importance of kindness and empathy, and how these qualities can make a difference in people's lives. These novels explore how characters in both stories face challenges and how they demonstrate resilience and courage. These novels also encourage students to consider the perspectives of different characters and to understand their experiences.
