My Students

Students taught in my room receive instruction from a regular education teacher and myself (the special education teacher). We co-teach all subjects for 6th grade students with varying learning needs. Our students often require information to be presented in a variety of ways and for various teaching techniques to be used in the classroom. Students come from over a dozen districts in the county to attend our wonderful school.

Many students that I have the pleasure of working with have needs that impact their learning.

Students require adaptations within the classroom to ensure they are able to reach success. Many students in our classroom are struggling readers who benefit from hearing the words being read vs reading silently. This project is seeking the funding to purchase whisper phones - this way our students can sit and read quietly to themselves and hear what they are reading! This will have a large impact on the understanding of material being read.

My Project

The addition of whisper phones will allow students to hear themselves reading. This will aid in increasing reading fluency, accuracy, and overall reading comprehension. This will benefit students in our classroom as many are below grade level in their reading abilities.

We will use the whisper phones in our classroom for students to read to themselves during classroom instruction, independent reading, and testing situations.

Whisper phones will allow students to work quietly, without distracting others, and to hear what they are reading rather than sitting and reading silently. This will allow students to focus on what they are reading and will increase their understanding of the material!

The whisper phones will be used cross curricular and in multiple subjects. They will be used in mathematics to help students better understand word problems that are presented and in reading and understanding text in science and history. These will be a great addition to our classroom and will help our students better understand what they are reading.
