My students need geometry books and posters to stimulate math conversation.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Maiolo's classroom raised $251

My Students
I teach third grade at a diverse, Title I school in southwest Florida. Sixty-one percent of our students receive free or reduced price lunch. Our students come from numerous cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Through lots of hard work, our school continues to help our students succeed.
Every day during Math, my students work with partners or in small groups to solve problems, make mistakes (and correct them), and reflect on their learning.
I want my students to have meaningful conversations about math while learning to respect and understand there is more than one way to correctly approach and solve a problem. I want them to learn from each other's mistakes and strategies!
My Project
For this project, I am requesting a class set of Christopher Danielson's amazing geometry picture book, "Which One Doesn't Belong?" plus the coordinating posters and teaching guide. The pages in the picture book and the posters contain sets of four shapes. Each of the shapes can be a correct answer to the question “Which one doesn’t belong?”
Because all of the shapes are possible right answers, the book and posters encourage meaningful conversations about geometry properties.
Learning to "argue" respectfully, listen to each other's ideas, and talk about math productively is so important! I am positive these books will help my students better understand Geometry!
