Help me give my students an opportunity to read, dissect, and discuss a novel included in our curriculum - we are only provided with an excerpt. Students will explore which matters more - the individual or the community.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our curriculum offers an excerpt from the memoir The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. With a full novel, students can take time to read, analyze, and discuss the ideas of individuality versus community. Students will use this memoir to understand how themes are developed and supported and develop their own perspectives of the world a
With an independent reading project, students can annotate and come to class prepared to participate in effective and thoughtful Socratic Seminars.
They will use the various perspectives and evidence presented to write a literary analysis of The Glass Castle - answering the question: Which matters more, individuality or community?
