Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Be kind is my number one rule. My third grade students love science! We have sprouted seeds and watched bread mold. We work hard every day.

My students are AMAZING!

Many come from underprivileged homes, I get to provide them a safe place to grow, learn and discover their strengths and support each others' weaknesses. In my classroom, students learn not only academics but also people skills. I teach my kids how to care for each other. I teach them how to work with others who may not be their number one choice. I teach them how to use their words in a kind way to achieve their goals. I teach them how to celebrate successes. My students take risks and learn that sometimes you have to fall down before you find success. Our school provides an environment where children can receive support, guidance and solid academic instruction paving the way for a successful future.

My Project

As a young student, one of my teachers hatched eggs in the classroom. This experience has stuck with me and I have always wanted to do this with my students. By hatching eggs, my students will get to experience first hand the miracle of life, and gain a deeper understanding the life cycle. Students will also learn about the importance of temperature and light as a source of energy. My students need an incubator, a brooding light, an egg candler and crate to experience hatching chicks.

Hatching eggs in the classroom creates an environment of excitement and anticipation.

It teaches students responsibility and the importance of thinking a project all the way through. We will discuss as a class where each chick will go after it is ready to "leave the nest." My students will be able to experience a little bit of farming in the middle of the city.
