Which Came First, the Chicken or the Egg?

Help me give my students incubators and chick brooder boxes plus the supplies that go with them for our chick project.

My Project

Our school is a rural school surrounded by corn and bean fields. Even though we are a farming community, not all of our kindergarten students live on farms. Many of our students get their eggs from the grocery store and don't know where eggs truly come from.

Our kindergarten students have a natural sense of curiosity about living things in the world around them.

Building on this curiosity, students can develop an understanding of biology concepts through direct experience with living things, their life cycles, and their habitats. They will learn by listening, observing, experimenting and applying their knowledge to real-world situations. Hatching chicks in the classroom will allow them to learn about chickens through close observation. They will learn that eggs come from chickens and not a shelf in the grocery store.

Our school has four kindergarten classrooms. In the past, we have borrowed the older, styrofoam incubators with a hatch rate of 1-2/12 eggs. With the purchase of two (up-to-date) incubators, two brooding boxes, and the supplies that go along with them, we are certain our success rate will explode! Plus, each classroom would share in a more personal experience by watching the life cycle of the chicken unfold before their very eyes.
