My students are enthusiastic young learners/artists! They love hands-on learning, exploration, and creation. My students love to question and explore the world around them. In the art classroom, students are encouraged to be their best, express themselves, grow as they take creative risks and explore their creative genius.
My school is a Title I school in which every student is entitled to free breakfast and free lunch.
We service many students with special needs, as well as a large population of ELL (English language learner) students. In recent years, we have a growing number of students who live in foster homes and shelters. Our school also has a growing number of students from other areas that have been affected by natural disasters. My students work hard each and every day to combat educational and/or personal struggles that they may be facing.
Even as the world and our classrooms become digital day by day, my students rely on paper and other classroom supplies throughout the year. My students have been making and producing work at an accelerated rate and I am running low. They love to paint, draw, and tear the paper to create art just for them. They love collage and playing with paper to create textures. They use paper for art sensory projects. Paper is something that keeps them engaged and ready to learn. I want them to be exposed to different kinds of paper and explore different forms of art using something so familiar as paper. These materials will help me continue scaffolding their art vocabulary and fine motor skills. I also want them to see that paper is not just for drawing and can be used in many different ways. I am asking for different types of paper—construction paper, drawing paper of different weights—to use for various types of projects. Our primary supply of paper is the white 90# drawing paper. This type of paper is able to stand up to a variety of different types of assignments the students will encounter. In addition, I am also asking for glue and pastels for my students to continue to create beautiful work.
