My Students

I teach language arts to 63 second-grade students from diverse backgrounds. All of the students at my school receive a free breakfast and lunch daily. Some of the students also receive food backpacks for the weekends. Many of my students are learning to speak English as their second language.

My students come to school eager to learn every day.

They are very appreciative of kind gestures and support. Sadly, students attending high-poverty schools are often not privy to the support and generosity that their counterparts in wealthier schools receive.

My Project

My students eat breakfast and lunch at school every day. Sometimes the cafeteria provides a healthy snack at the end of the day.

On the days that a snack is not provided my students get really hungry and disapointed.

Fortunately, my class has received snack items in the past from donors that have helped them combat the hunger in the afternoons.

Due to limited storage I'm not able to order enough snacks to last throughout the year. We have one tub of peanut butter stuffed pretzels remaining in the snack cabinet. When my students saw this, one of them said, "Ms. N ask the donors for more snacks!"
