My Students

As a teacher in a low-income school, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Many of my students receive backpack food for the weekend, and free lunch and breakfast.

Many of our students come to school well below grade level.

I have been working diligently to help foster a love of reading in my students and to help them overcome their frustration with reading. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.

My Project

My students need access to a variety of reading material that they'll enjoy. My classroom library is where students will hang out just to enjoy a good book. New books to my classroom library will provide my students with rich and engaging literature.

My classroom library needs books to reflect the diversity of my classroom, my students' interests, abilities, experiences, and culture.

Reading is one of the most important fundamental skills children must master to succeed in school and in life. Almost everything we do involves reading in some form. Reading also enhances a child's' imagination, improves writing skills, and helps build independence
