This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Teaching in a low-income high poverty school district, I see the challenges both in and out of the classroom that my students are faced with daily. Despite those challenges, my students are caring, loving, and smart individuals who thrive when learning through movement and hands on projects.
I strive to provide a safe, comfortable, and fun learning environment where students have creative and meaningful learning experiences.
Each student is eager to learn and works hard to gain the skills needed to become life long learners.
My Project
As I begin my fifth year as a kindergarten teacher I have learned that my students need to be able to make choices to help in their learning. Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. I want my kids to come to school every day and be excited to learn. One way of accomplishing this is by incorporating flexible seating.
My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work.
Students have different needs; some need to sit on the ground while others may prefer standing. By providing them with the different options they will be able to make their own decision in what they believe will help them be the most comfortable and excited. I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more.
