My Project
Everyone loves to play games and make new friends. Being able to utilize these skills appropriately is not something everyone can execute on their own. It is very difficult sometimes to engage with others and demonstrate the appropriate skills to make new friends and especially hard when you are a child with special needs. My class consists of up to 12 severe and profound students. Their age range is 15-21 however; cognitively they are at a PreK-Kindergarten level. These kiddos desperately want to play with other kids and fit in socially.
The materials that I have chosen, along with teacher guided instruction and modeling, will indeed help facilitate social engagements, role playing, creativity, common interests, reduce social awkwardness and anxiety, and boost confidence.
As an added bonus, these materials will also help to strengthen academic skills and fine motor skills. Lets give these students the tools and practice they desire in order to flourish socially and hopefully make bonds with others that will last a lifetime.
