Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 1st grade to 19 students, one with special needs. We are in a low income area, and most of my students are on free or reduced lunch. Most of my students are learning English as their second language.
I teach in a district that is becoming low on funds due to budget cuts. We get a certain amount of money to spend on our classrooms, which needs to be used for pencils, glue, paper and things like that. Anything extra needs to come out of our pockets. My students don't have "extra" money at home that they can purchase supplies with and bring to school. So, I spend a lot of money on school supplies. There are a few "big" things that our class needs that I have not been able to purchase due to my own budget.
Our class would love to have an electric pencil sharpener. The one we have will sharpen 2 pencils and then freezes up. We would also love an electric 3-hole punch to quickly punch papers that go into our folders. An electric stapler with staples would help me staple their theme notebooks and writing journals together. These staplers can staple up to 25 pages together. The last thing that I am asking for is a long arm stapler that will staple a book in the middle. We have these supplies at our school but 40 teachers are expected to share them, and it is so hard to track them down when they are needed. If I got these supplies I would share them with the other 6 teachers in 1st grade.
Thank you so much for your consideration. These supplies would make my job so much easier. I could do little things so much faster. The other teachers in my grade level would appreciate it as well.
