Help me give my students floor cushions, deodorant, composition notebooks, toothbrushes, and snacks for an educational experience to remember in a place that feels safe, comfortable, and supported.
All keiki deserve a fair and equal education opportunity. In my classroom. I don't want students worried about whether or not they are able to afford things. They can come to my classroom and feel comfortable to ask for things.
Snacks and critical needs resources are essential for everyone in life.
The majority of our students come from low-income, poverty-level, or homeless populations. Some students come to school for breakfast and lunch with those being their only meals of the day. If students are hungry, they can't concentrate or learn. With my classroom being stocked with snacks and daily hygiene supplies, students are able to come to my room to get things whenever they need them.
Floor cushions will support those students with sensory needs. It'll create an environment that is similar to a home because it's comfortable.
Students will use the notebooks daily to work on assignments in class and journal their thoughts, emotions, and anything else they feel like expressing through writing. At the end of the year, students can reflect on their writing and take their notebooks home.
The goal for students who use these resources is that they're comfortable and know that they can come to school regardless of what they have because my classroom will have what they need. My classroom will be a place where all students feel safe, comfortable, and supported.
