Where is Martha Stewart When I Need Her?

My students need a way to come to my class and access their folders/work in an efficient way. My students need some kind of movable storage system.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Are you an expert organizer? Does Martha Stewart follow you to organize your materials? Do you think a third grader has the organizational skills of Martha? Most definitely not!

I teach third grade in an urban, high poverty area.

Most students speak Spanish. They work hard and try their best. We are a small and highly successful school where both teachers and students strive their best for success! I teach to two different homerooms, and the students travel back and forth to these two classrooms. Needless to say, the students lose and cannot find their materials on an ongoing basis. This is definitely interfering and interrupting their education.

My Project

I am simply asking for a filing system on wheels. This would be for the students, not the teacher. The students can put their work inside their file folder, and have all of their paperwork at hand. This could end the madness of asking where is their paperwork!!! These basic organizational steps will lead to great success in each and every child. It is providing the students with the actual tool to help students organize themselves.

This is important to me because I want to teach the students the basic steps of being independent and responsible for themselves.

By providing this open filing system, the students can build the tools to organize him/herself. Students will be able to find those lost papers that escape them. Hopefully, this tool will help each and every child find his/her materials!
