My Students
My school is approaching 50 years of existence in our community. The area has a rich farming history. Generations of families have lived here.
The students come from many neighborhoods in the community to enroll in this school to learn Chinese as their second language.
For half of the day, my students are in Chinese class. Then they switch over to English class for the other half of the day where they are taught English Language Arts, Math and Social Studies.
My Project
The map of the world and the United States of America on the other side already laminated will help my students in several ways. First of all, the maps will help my students understand the locations of many settings in the various genres they read. By connecting and understanding the locations of settings in text, my students will be able to increase their comprehension. In addition to this, the maps will help my students understand many science aspects as to locations, longitude, latitude and so on of the science standards that need to be taught to them. With this, the maps will help my students understand the locations of the events we study in social studies. My students will be able to understand the locations of events in relation to where they live. This will help the students understand and connect to so much more than they do now. Having the ability to actually hold a map in their hands and follow the trade routes with their fingers, color the different settings of characters with expo markers, and draw the water currents will enhance their education in many ways.
