Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 9th and 10th grade Global History and Geography. My school is a design based school that attracts students from all over the city. My course is aimed at preparing students for college and using their knowledge of geography and world history in the real world. Support materials for Global History and Geography are costly and quickly gather dust. Moreover, students tend to be more naturally engaged with digital materials. I want to be able to coach my students as they wade through the geographical material available online. Without a digital projector in the classroom it's very difficult to demonstrate to students how to use history related software, how to navigate free online college resources, or how to use the Internet as a free history text.
We have outdated maps or maps badly copied that are difficult to read. We also have wonderful donated smartboards but no projectors to access the material on the smartboard system.
With an overhead projector my students can wade into the waters of the Mediterranean Sea or climb the Himalayas. They can discover the wonders of the Silk Road or travel back in time and walk with the first humans.
Your help will make it possible for my students to learn the intricacies of their world. They will learn about why we're involved in Afghanistan and the problems the people of Haiti have faced.
