Where in the World Can We Sit?

My Students

This is my second year as a second grade teacher. I am so excited to meet my new students in September. Well, all teachers are excited to meet their new class. So what makes this one special. I taught this group of students in Kindergarten. I remember sitting on our kindergarten rug listening to stories, learning to count, laughing uncontrollably over someone's silly story, and oh so much more. Last year, something was missing in my second grade room. Guess what it was. You got it! We did not have a rug to sit on to share wonderful moments, group activities, and just somewhere besides our chairs to work with a friend. So I don't want to disappoint my new old friends from Kindergarten. When school starts in September, I would like to have new rug to share on our journey in second grade.

My Project

Working together in an area created by our "rug" will build our community of learners. We often use the floor area to gather together to use our whiteboards to solve problems. Sitting in a group makes working as partners easier. It also helps build collaboration and student learning. Having a rug to sit on makes our projects much easier on the tush. It also gives an alternative to staying at our desk to work on projects. Flexibility to move from carpet area to desk increases creativity and ability to focus for longer periods of time. It would be our gathering place!
