Where in the U.S. Are You?

My students need United States atlases to learn the geography and regions of the United States. They will also help us find schools during Mystery Skypes.

My Students

As a teacher in a high poverty school district my students are faced with challenges in and outside the classroom. Despite the challenges my students face they persevere. My student are high energy, communicative, and enthusiastic learners. They have a lot of energy and are always looking for a fun way to learn. They love to get involved with the lesson in whatever way possible.

My students love to show off their work and teach their peers.

They are excited to teach each other, both in groups and in front of the class. My students are visual learners. They love to use different resources in the room to show learning strategies to their friends. The students are a great group of mathematicians, scientist, writers and artists.

My Project

My students are learning about Regions of the United States this year and are having a difficult time doing so with atlases that have out dated material and are falling apart. To learn about different regions in the United States my students have been doing Mystery Skypes. We Skype another classroom somewhere in the United States and use atlases to figure out where that classroom is. The setup of our current atlases makes this hard and the process difficult for the students.

New Atlases will make geography more fun and learning easier for my students.

Students will be able to easily find different areas in the United States. Students will learn to read a map and locate different areas and places on the map. I know with the newer atlases the students will be excited for Social Studies and will want to Mystery Skype classrooms more often.

This project also contains a teacher’s guide along with the atlases. The teacher’s guide will provide up-to-date material for my students to use to learn about United States geography.
