This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a Special Education teacher catering to a diverse range of grades and disabilities, it's crucial to provide my students with classroom furniture that suits their individual needs. Sensory-friendly seating options for those with sensory processing difficulties can greatly enhance their learning experience.
By ensuring that each student has access to furniture tailored to their requirements, I aim to create an inclusive and supportive environment where all learners can thrive academically and socially.
My Adaptive Learning Spaces: Tailored Furniture for Student Success project will transform my classroom into a dynamic and inclusive environment. For students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), I plan to incorporate sensory-friendly seating such as wobble stools and cushioned mats, providing them with comfortable and calming options to enhance focus and regulate sensory input. For students with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), I'll utilize ergonomic chairs with built-in fidget features, allowing them to channel excess energy while remaining engaged in learning tasks.
These strategic furniture selections will empower all students to fully participate in classroom activities and reach their academic potential and IEP goals.
