Teaching students in the 21st century has become a challenge. As we know, students have many individual needs. It is necessary to motivate students to work, pay attention, and learn in the traditional classroom setting. In fact, many students have increased motivation when it comes to choice.
In my school district in Colorado, the majority of students are from military families.
However, our budget for the district is lower than usual during these tough economic times. Unfortunately, I am unable to personally provide all of the equipment I believe would benefit my students. Motivation is key. My students love being able to choose their spot to sit in our flexible seating classroom. My students are more likely to be engaged in the task at hand and truly learn to the best of their abilities.
New to flexible seating this year, my students love having the ability to choose their spot in the classroom. However, the locations to put their materials have been less than ideal. Originally, I had purchased magazine holders. However, the dimensions do not allow our folders or journals to be placed inside. Other storage tubs have housed our items this year.
Yet looking ahead, a better solution is necessary.
Ideally, one location to hold our items is ideal. This cubby storage solution will provide students with a single piece of furniture to keep all their work-related items in one location. Students will know exactly where to store and find their materials.
