Where Calm Meets Confidence: A Reset Corner for Young Minds

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In our classroom, students are learning more than just math and science, they’re also learning how to manage their emotions, advocate for themselves, and grow into thoughtful, resilient individuals. To support this, I’m creating a calm down corner designed to help students self-regulate, reflect, and return to learning with a clear and focused mind.
This cozy space will feature a bean bag chair and a fluffy carpet to provide soft seating for students who need a break from overstimulation.
Feelings guide posters will support emotional vocabulary and reflection, while a guided breathing toy will help students learn to calm their bodies during stressful moments. To keep things fun and aligned with our island–inspired classroom, decorative palm trees will create a tropical, serene vibe that makes the space inviting and safe.
Many of my students come to school carrying more than just backpacks—they carry big feelings that they may not know how to manage. This calm down corner will give them a private, purposeful space to take a breath, identify their emotions, and use healthy strategies to get back on track.
