Where Art and Math Collide: Engaging Projects for Young Minds

My Project

My incredible third grade students love hands-on projects! I’m asking for help to purchase various art supplies for two amazing, art-inspired math activities. The first project is called “Array City.” In this activity, students use construction paper to design a collage-style city that incorporates multiplication and division equations, along with fact families. By creating buildings and cities using different arrays, students will gain a deeper understanding of the connection between multiplication and division.

Making learning fun is very important to me, which is why I love integrating ART into my lessons!

The second project is a festive holiday art lesson called “Square Snowmen.” This activity teaches students about square numbers. Using graph paper, students will create art pieces that incorporate square number arrays (such as 3x3, 4x4, 5x5, etc.). To reinforce the concept of square numbers, students will then design and build 3D models of their square snowmen using Model Magic air-dry clay and whimsical snowman accessories. My students absolutely love constructing and developing concrete representations of what they are learning!
